Australia is a diverse country and so Easter is celebrated in many different ways. Some observe the Christian ideals of Easter by visiting their church and giving thanks to God. Churches will hold special services across the weekend, with some putting on performances that re-enact the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Others use it as a time to connect with family and friends, while some just get away from their day-to-day lives with a short holiday across the long weekend. However it is celebrated, there are several common traditions that many people observe:
- Hot cross buns: Eaten on Good Friday, these sweet buns with dried fruit have a cross on top made from pastry or a flour and water mix.
- Easter eggs: Traditionally eaten on Easter Sunday, chocolate Easter eggs are a favourite for adults and children alike. Eggs symbolise a new beginning but for most people they’re just an excuse to eat delicious chocolate!
- Easter bunny: The Easter bunny delivers the chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday morning, which are associated with fertility and the spring festivals of the northern hemisphere.
- Four-day weekend: A great opportunity for people to take a break from work and head somewhere close for a short holiday.
Lantern Club is embracing the spirit of togetherness this Easter season. In addition to the seasonal treats that will be on offer at MàZi Restaurant and MàZi Café, the Club is getting into Easter Egg Hampers in a big way.
More than 50 Easter Egg Hampers featuring Cadbury and Red Tulip chocolates will be given away in our March 10 Raffle, with tickets being sold in the lounge from 6.30pm. The first half will be drawn from 7:30; the second half from 8:30. Tickets are only $5 for ten ticket numbers so be sure you’re there!
Even if you miss the raffle (or can’t wait for it!), hampers are now on sale for $60 in the Reward Shop, or you can use your Reward Points!
Our Easter Egg Hampers make the perfect Easter gift but in case they aren’t quite your style, we gathered a few more gift recommendations for the season.
Easter gifts for kids and adults
While gift giving at Easter isn’t quite on the same scale as Christmas and birthdays, it still presents an opportune time to buy something for someone special in your life, regardless of their age. Some people would rather give a gift than chocolate eggs and bunnies, while others will use any excuse to spoil their friends and family.
If you’re looking for a gift to buy someone this Easter, here are five Easter gifts for kids and five gifts for adults to save you the hassle of searching for yourself.
1. Book for charity
Teach your kids the true spirit of Easter with this gift from Oxfam. Donate a real chicken to a South African family who will benefit from its eggs as food and a source of income, and potentially breed it to produce more chickens.
2. Bunny LED night-light
Instead of giving a chocolate Easter bunny that will be devoured in a matter of minutes, why not give a LED bunny night light that is both practical and beautiful? Every time your child goes to bed they’ll be reminded of what a wonderful Easter gift they received.
Cost: $17.95 – $19.95
3, Crayon mugs
Combine two gifts into one by filling up these awesome Crayon mugs with little chocolate Easter eggs. Not only will they get their chocolate fix, they’ll also have a cool memento of the day they can use for a wide range of purposes.
4. Bedtime suitcase
Give the child in your life a gorgeous suitcase with a styled bedroom interior. It comes with Sylvain Rabbit and a smaller baby rabbit toy that can be tucked into bed, complete with mattress, pillow and blanket. A great nighttime companion that can be taken anywhere with ease.
It’s the gift that keeps on giving! Grow lavender, mint, petunia, wild strawberry, or any other herb you like in these fantastic egglings. They are right in keeping with the Easter theme and will teach children about the magic of gardens at the same time.
Cost: $19.95 – $21.95
1. Hot Choccy Gift Box
If you’re going to give a special adult in your life chocolate for Easter, do it in style with this amazing Hot Choccy Gift Box. Packed full of gourmet chocolates and drinking powder, they will absolutely love you for the gift, and you’ll probably get to share in the goodies too!
2. Romantic Dinner Gift Set
Bring a little romance into your Easter with this special gift from Max Brenner. Bust out the fondue tower, melt the exquisite chocolate, dip in pieces of Belgian waffle and enjoy an indulgent Easter with the love of your life.
3. Rabbit print
Buy one of these geometric rabbit prints from Studio Cockatoo, have it framed and hung on the wall. There is a wide selection of animals and designs to choose from if rabbits aren’t your thing.
4. Chicken basket
For the chef in the house, this cute chicken wire basket can be used to hold a herb plant, or a bunch of eggs. It’s a stylish addition to any kitchen and comes complete with a parsley herb plant to get you started.
5. Board games
Bring a little youthful fun to your Easter with a classic board game or two from Games Paradise. Monopoly is an old favourite that is being reinvented all the time. Grab the Beatles Edition, Game of Thrones Edition, NRL Edition or one specific to your state’s capital city!
Cost: $39.95 – $87.90
