1. TELL US YOUR STORY, WHEN & WHERE DID YOUR JOURNEY WITH COFFEE BEGIN?

My journey began when I started working at Gloria Jeans. As I worked with friends, being at work was fun and it made me fall in love with making coffee. It wasn’t until I started working at Lantern Club that I became interested in improving my coffee skills, especially latte art. I enjoy using coffee as a platform to brighten a customer’s day. There is nothing like seeing the smile on their face when they see the unique design you have made especially for them.

2. WHAT MAKES A GOOD BARISTA?

I think a good Barista must want to always improve their skills – there is always something new you can learn and often this can come from peers.

3. ANY FUNNY OR EMBARRASSING MOMENTS ON THE JOB?

Only when I went to pick up a tray of coffee cups to re-stock the café and I didn’t realise another tray was stuck to it underneath. So when I picked up the top tray the bottom tray fell to the ground. Luckily only 2-3 out of the full tray smashed!

4. WHAT’S THE MOST UNUSUAL REQUEST YOU’VE HAD TO MAKE?

The most unusual request I was asked to make was a decaf long black with froth and chocolate on top like a cappuccino. I’m sure it tastes great but it was just an unusual order.

5. HAVE YOU SERVED ANYONE FAMOUS?

When I worked at Gloria Jeans I served a number of rugby league players from both South Sydney Rabbitohs and Canterbury Bulldogs. Often I don’t realise who they are until after they have left.

6. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE COFFEE?

My favourite coffee is a skim latte. They are always nice and strong and you can see the latte art skills of the Barista. Although if there is some kind of coffee or cold drink with Nutella, you can bet that I’ll be drinking it!

7. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESSERT?

Nutella Panna Cotta. I make this all the time at home and its delicious.

8. ANY TIPS YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS LOOKING INTO BECOMING A BARISTA?

Always put your pride and love into making coffee, have a smile on your face and be prepared to take constructive criticism. Don’t be afraid to ask your peers for help – they always have helpful tips. Finally, you must practice all the time!

9. BESIDES COFFEE, WHAT OTHER INTERESTS OR HOBBIES DO YOU HAVE?

My other interests included design and I’m currently studying Design, majoring in textiles and spatial design. I also love photography and I’m a teacher for the Australian Physie and Dance Association. Another interest of mine is travelling, with my most recent trips being to Europe and Bali. I’m also looking forward to my upcoming trips to both Thailand and the USA. I also like baking desserts and sweet treats in my spare time and sharing them with friends and family.
