Lantern Club shines Pink! in October and the enormously popular Pink Fundraiser Dinner is back at MàZi Restaurant to raise much needed funds and awareness for the Campsie BreastScreen NSW Centre. With superb food and incredible entertainment on the menu, and two-time Gold Logie winning television personality Denise Drysdale livening up proceedings as MC, it’s one event on the social calendar that can not be missed.

What can you expect at the PINK Fundraiser Dinner?

If 2015 is anything to go by, a night of world-class entertainment from local vocal group The Kamis, tasty beverages, a special gift on arrival and the opportunity to make a life-changing difference to the local women of Canterbury. And that’s before we even mention the mouth-watering food by John Lanzafame and chefs. Dishes include osso bucco, chilli and parsley remoulade; Nonna’s meatballs; pan fried John Dory fillets alla giotto with bug, scallop and prawn; and lamb shoulder croquette, roasted lamb rump and pulled lamb shank in pea broth. If that’s not enough to get the tastebuds dancing, let’s not forget the desserts, such as ricotta cannoli, vanilla bean panna cotta and white chocolate cream in a pink garden of sweet weeds, soil and puddles!

Why do we still need to raise funds for the Campsie BreastScreen NSW Centre?

After setting a $30,000 fundraising target before last year’s Lantern Club Shines Pink! initiative, the Pink! Dinner alone raised just over $73,000 thanks to extraordinary ticket sales and amazing auction bids. These funds helped build Australia’s very first sensory suite at the Campsie BreastScreen NSW Centre, alleviating much of the fear and anxiety women feel when attending a mammogram screening.
Fundraising plays a vital role in improving the rates of early breast cancer detection in local Canterbury women, and increasing life expectancy through treatment. According to the latest BreastScreen NSW data, it’s predicted there are approximately 50 women in the Canterbury region who have breast cancer but don’t know it. Lantern Club’s ‘Find the Canterbury 50’ campaign has been launched to increase the number of women in the local area making and keeping mammogram appointments who may have missed recommended screenings. Money raised from this year’s Lantern Club Shines Pink! month will be used to employ a Community Engagement Officer who will work with women from various populations in Canterbury who have low rates of breast screening. He or she will be given the task of raising awareness of the Campsie BreastScreen NSW Centre to increase screening numbers and reduce the number of undiagnosed women with breast cancer.
