At the recent ClubsNSW Clubs and Community Awards, the industry’s annual night of nights, Lantern Club was honoured with a ‘Highly Commended Award’ for our ‘Brighten Your Life With Books’ program, in partnership with Dymocks Childern’s Charities.
In 2014, six local primary schools in the Canterbury area received a share of brand new books totalling $80,000, helping spark a new interest and love for reading whilst improving the quality and quantity of their library resources. Lantern Club worked with teachers and librarians to purchase the most appropriate books for their student and the Lantern Club team then delivered boxes of Australia’s best contemporary books to each school.
Vying for the award in the Education category with 10 other West and South Sydney finalists, our efforts in going above and beyond for our local community were recognised by an expert panel of judges. These included Australian philanthropist and actress Paula Duncan AM, former Minister for Gaming and Racing Kevin Greene, Centre for Volunteering Chairperson Valerie Hoogstad and former ClubsNSW Deputy CEO Wayne Krelle.

Other winners in the 2015 Clubs and Community Awards included Bankstown Sports Club, Wests Ashfield and Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club, and ClubsNSW CEO Anthony Bell was glowing in his praise for the efforts of each club.
“All four Clubs managed to beat out a record number of entries, cementing them as key pillars in their local community,” he said.
“Clubs play a key role in their local areas, and it is great to see these four clubs recognised for the work that they do.”
“These clubs truly are role models for other organisations in the local area.”
Lantern Club would like to thank our members whose efforts helped us to live our vision ‘to make a significant contribution to the quality of community life’.
