Around 150 people packed into the function room of Lantern Club where a total of 17 cheques were presented to schools, sporting groups and organisations from the Canterbury area.

Hosted by former NSW premier Morris Iemma, along with speeches, plenty of photos and all round good spirits, MAZi chef John Lanzafame treated everyone to yummy foods and desserts.
Just under $80,000 was presented on the night for a range of programs, adhering to Lantern Club’s slogan ‘to make a significant contribution to the quality of community life’.
Also present on the night was Sophie Cotsis MLC Member of Legislative Council in NSW Parliament, Jihad Dib – Member for Lakemba, Pierre Azzi and Karl Saleh who are councillors at Canterbury Bankstown Council.
Mr Iemma said the night was also about thanking the groups for their contribution to the district.
“The night was to acknowledge and celebrate the magnificent work local schools, community groups and sporting organizations do in making our local area a better to place to live,” Iemma said.

“This would not be possible without hard work and dedication of teachers, community workers and volunteers and many of these are parents.
“Since inception a mere 4 years ago, Lantern Club will have contributed almost $750,000 towards supporting local school and sporting groups.
“It’s a great source of pride that I can still play a role in building a better community, particularly as Lantern’s Club grants are all about making a real difference to the quality of life in the local community.”
