The September name history
September comes from the Latin word septem which means “seven” as it was originally the seventh of ten months on the oldest known Roman calendar (Marchwas the first month of the year until around 153 BC). After the calendar reform that added January and February to the beginning of the year, September became the ninth month, but retained its name. It had 29 days until the Julian reform, which added a day, so it now spans for 30 days. September to us in the southern hemisphere is the start of spring, while in the northern hemisphere it is the start of autumn/fall.
September’s birthstone is sapphire. Its birth flower is the Morning glory or Aster, meaning daintiness, love, magic.
