Winter sports in Sydney
Winter is when the big football codes really hit their strides in Sydney. NRL season is in full swing and along with it is the greatest rugby league game of all: State of Origin. The New South Wales Blues again go into the series hoping to beat the Queensland Maroons who have won 11 of the past 12 series. Yep, it’s been tough times for our boys. But all great dynasties must come to an end, and NSW has some great young players like Nathan Cleary and Tom Trbojevic looking to make an impact on the game’s biggest stage.
Meanwhile in the AFL, the Sydney Swans and Western Sydney Giants will be in the thick of their season. But the local derby on August 18 at Spotless Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park will be one of winter’s top sporting matches.
If you want something with a bit of international flavour, the Ice Hockey Classic should be on your to do list this winter. USA play old rivals Canada on Saturday 30 June at Qudos Bank Arena.
